How to Configure Outlook 2007

Note: This guide assumes that Outlook 2007 is being setup for the first time. If you have previously used Outlook with a different email server your steps may vary. When opening Outlook for the first time you may be presented with a wizard. If you see the wizard proceed to step 3. Otherwise you will see something similar to the image below.

Step 1

Choose Tools → Account Settings... from the top menu.

Step 2

From the Email tab press the New Button.

Step 3

Check the box next to Manually configure server settings for additional server types.

Step 4

Choose Internet E-mail and press the Next button.

Step 5

Enter your name and email address. Select IMAP as your account type. Enter for both incoming and outgoing mail servers. Enter your email address as your username. Enter your email password and check the box next to remember password.

Press the More Settings button.

Step 6

Select the Outgoing Server tab. Check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

Do not press the OK button at this time

Step 7

Select the Advanced tab. Select TLS after Use the following type of encrypted connection for both the Incoming and Outgoing servers.

Change the number after Outgoing Server (SMTP) to 587

Press the OK button to return to the previous window.

Step 8

You should now your email address listed under the Name field in the list of email accounts.

Press the Close button.

Step 9

Press the Finish button to complete the setup process. Outlook will now login to the REVLY mail server and retrieve any emails that are waiting for you.

Now that your email account has been added please take the time to follow these additional steps to ensure that your Outlook conforms to other REVLY services.

Step 10

Right click your email address in the mail view pane and select IMAP Folders.

Step 11

Uncheck the box next to When displaying heiarchy in Outlook, show only subscribed folders.

Press the OK button to close the window.

Step 12

Repeat step 1 (Choose Tools → Account Settings... from the top menu.) to return to the email settings.

Double click your email address in the list to return to settings for your account.

Press the More Settings button.

Step 13

Select the Folders tab. Select Choose an existing folder or create a new folder to save your sent items for this account in.

If you do not already have a Sent folder press the New Folder button to create the folder.

After you have selected the Sent folder press the OK button.

Press Next on the previous window. 


Press Finish to return to the main window.

Step 14

From the main menu select Tools → Options. Select the Other tab. Press the Advanced Options button.

Step 15

Press the Browse button following Startup in this folder.

Step 16

Select Inbox from the tree under your email address.

Press OK until you return to the main window.

Step 17

From the top menu select View → Current View → Hide Messages Marked for Deletion.
